Tremendous Toprak: Razgatlioglu romps to seventh podium of the year!

He’s becoming quite a regular feature on the WorldSBK podium, and now Razgatlioglu is right in the mix for the battle over third in the championship!

Five of the last seven races have seen Toprak Razgatlioglu (Turkish Puccetti Racing) put in a hearty performance in WorldSBK to mount the podium. Race 2 at Laguna Seca was no difference, with the Turkish star making quick progress into the top three in the opening laps of the race, where he would remain until the chequered flag greeted him at the other end.

It was a bit of a slow start to 2019 for Razgatlioglu, who had to wait until Race 1 at Imola for not only his first podium of the season, but even his first top five. Since that moment though, the flood gates opened and now, Razgatlioglu is finding himself to be a consistent force in the WorldSBK field.

Speaking after the second race in WorldSBK, Toprak said: “I am really happy today because this weekend, we have two podiums. We tried again in the Tissot Superpole Race, but I couldn’t because of the red flag, and all the riders changed tyres. I couldn’t change tyres as I did not have the stickers for the new tyre.”

In the last seven races, the 22-year-old from Alanya has scored 90 points, bettered only by championship leader Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). Having led at Misano and at Donington Park, the top Independent rider of the weekend will be poised to continue his quest for the first victory of his WorldSBK career when WorldSBK returns to action in Portugal.

“Now, we go on holiday,” declared Toprak, who has certainly earned his rest after a stunning last few rounds. “I will wait for Portimao, because it is very important! Thanks to the team for a great job, as this podium is from all of their hard work. Again, I am very happy!”
